3Mâ„¢ IJ39 is a matte vinyl film that provides the quality needed for short- to medium-term applications requiring stronger adhesion. Used on equipment, bins, coolers, and other hard-to-bond surfaces where standard vinyl fails. The high-tack, pressure-sensitive adhesive grips low-VOC paints, powder-coated paints, and low-surface-energy plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene. This film can be used for promotional graphic applications from short- to medium-term, indoor or outdoor, and flat or simple curves. Printed on premium 3M IJ39 film, these heavy-duty stickers feature a specialized, aggressive adhesive designed to grip where standard vinyl fails.

3M IJ39 features an aggressive, high-tack adhesive specifically engineered to bond to difficult, low-energy surfaces. This heavy-duty adhesive grips immediately upon contact and flows into surface textures, creating a near-permanent bond that cannot be easily repositioned. You must apply this sticker accurately the first time, as attempting to move it will likely stretch the vinyl or damage the adhesive. Due to its extreme grip, do not apply this to drywall or standard painted vehicle surfaces if you intend to remove it later, as removal can lift paint or leave significant residue. It is the superior choice for textured plastics, powder-coated tumblers, and industrial machinery where standard vinyls fail to stick.

This high-tack material sticks reliably to flat surfaces and simple, moderate curves. This is a calendered vinyl and does not remain stuck to sharp direction changes, deep recesses, or compound curves for extended periods of time. Cast films like 3M IJ180 and 3M IJ175 are formulated for sticking to more extreme angles and complex shapes.

In order to cover up anything dark under a sticker, the new vinyl must come with a grey-tinted adhesive. 3M IJ39 has a clear adhesive and thus is not recommended for use as a cover-up sticker. You can use 3M IJ35-10 or Oracal 3641 for this purpose, as they feature a grey-tinted adhesive for block-out purposes.

Adding lamination increases the overall thickness of the decal, making the application process significantly easier and more stable. This protective layer also boosts durability, allowing the sticker to withstand sun exposure, heavy handling, and cleaning agents much better than raw vinyl. 3M IJ39 outdoors lasts 3+ years without fading unlaminated and 5 years if laminated. Indoor life on laminated 3M IJ39 is virtually unlimited, though slight shrinking begins over time on this intermediate, calendered vinyl.

High-tack decals are essential for low-energy surfaces, as the specialized adhesive flows into textures to create a strong mechanical bond. They also perform reliably on powder-coated paints and durable plastics that typically cause standard vinyl to fail. 3M IJ39 is frequently used for labeling industrial machinery, waste management bins, and plastic kayaks. It is also the industry standard for motocross and ATV graphics, though it is designed for permanent branding and is difficult to remove from these surfaces once cured.

Every sticker is produced at true high resolution using professional-grade printing equipment. We run only commercial printers from Epson, Canon, and Durst, and we print exclusively with genuine OEM inks—never third-party or economy substitutes. Print output is held to a minimum of 300 DPI for crisp detail, clean edges, and accurate color. For designs that demand extra finesse, including smooth gradients and very small text, we use a dedicated multi-ink Epson system capable of rendering fine detail that lower-end setups simply can’t match.

Adhesive Type

3M IJ39 is equipped with a heavy-duty, permanent, solvent-based adhesive. Unlike water-based alternatives, this industrial-strength bond grips aggressively upon contact and cures to a hard, weather-resistant hold. Because this specific formulation utilizes a clear adhesive, it is not rated for high-opacity block-out performance over dark graphics. The 24-hour "Adhesion Value" tests at approximately 5.0 lbs/inch on stainless steel, which is significantly stronger than the 3.7 lbs/inch found in standard economy vinyls like Oracal 3640. For optimal initial tack, this material should be applied at temperatures above 50º F.
