Happy Birthday banner

Templates for Custom Birthday Banners:

You’re thinking about buying a birthday banner, and you want to create a cool message and some imagery. You realize drawing it on a piece of paper and taking it to a print shop is probably not ideal. You come to understand that using a template to create what you want is the way to go. How do you find one? Easy. All you need to do is go on our website, and when you get to the banner product page, you’ll have the option to click on a design tool. That will then allow you to click on “Templates” and use the many clip art options of text and imagery that we have available for you. When you finish and “Add to Cart,” we will have it as part of your order, and we’ll take it from there.

If you decide to use an different site’s template, the process will be pretty similar. Or if you can design on your computer, that will be no problem for us either. Then you’ll upload your custom text and graphics as high-resolution art when you “Add to Cart.” We’ll email a proof to you to approve, so we’re sure to get it right. Then, in a single business day, your birthday banner will be ready.

Using a Printing Company to Make a Custom Birthday Banner-

Why use a printing company to produce that custom birthday banner? Let’s play a little game of “What If.” You think doing something yourself will just be quicker and easier. You head to a local chain retail store, buy the biggest piece of poster paper they have and a box of markers. You’re kind of excited and feeling creative. All’s good, right?

Being the one in charge of making a birthday banner can bring you glory if done right. It can also lead to you looking like a complete dolt. It’s empowering, yet scary. You don’t want to fail at this. All of a sudden, that excitement you felt is gone, and you are stressed.

Man thinking

Positivity has been turned upside down, and you’re full of fear. We get it. We, at Good Guys Signs, have taken tens of thousands of calls from people in your position. We’ve heard uncertainty and worry in their voices, and their questions are filled with nervousness. We call these “pain points.”

For just a couple bucks more than buying the poster paper and markers, we’ll knock out your custom banner for you. We started this section with a question to you. So, the better question to close this section out would be, “Why not use a printing company to produce that birthday banner?”

Happy Birthday to You

What to Put on a Custom Birthday Banner:

This article will make it clear that there aren’t a whole lot of hard and fast rules regarding a happy birthday banner. Most of the decisions will be subjective and dependent on the age and gender of the celebrated birthday boy or girl. We’ll just lay out some ideas and scenarios for you that can help you with the thought process.

Think about the mindset and personality of the person you’re throwing the birthday party for. Are they lighthearted? Serious? Do they like poetry? What’s their favorite song? The message you’ll put on the banner should be one that resonates with them the most. If it’s a family member, that’s probably not going to be a difficult task. If it’s a co-worker that you don’t know all that well, ask the boss or other employees. You’ll find answers will come to you easier than you think.

Banner Photos-

When you’re pondering over a photo that you want to put on the banner, the recommendation we would give pretty much echoes what we discussed about messaging. We’ll toss a couple thoughts out there for you:

  1. If the birthday person is celebrating a milestone 75th birthday, maybe grab photos of them through the years, and make a timeline of pictures.
  2. If it’s a child’s birthday, you can put pictures of their favorite animal on the banner. Or you can spice up the birthday banner with whatever the theme of the party is.

Color Schemes-

When designing your custom banner and trying to come up with the best-looking color schemes, again, there’s a lot of subjectivity. There are certainly some color combinations that work better than others. Generally speaking, you want to create contrast as much as you can. If your letters are light colored, your background color should be a darker hue, and vice versa. Too many colors is dizzying to the eyes, so that should be avoided. The exception would be if it’s a child’s birthday. In that case, you can get away with more colors because kids eyes widen with excitement at lots of color.

Rainbow

You’ll be sure to get it right by using color schemes from what’s known as the color wheel, which Isaac Newton came up with. The wheel demonstrates the relationship between colors and has been modernized over time.

Complementary Colors: colors on the opposite side of the spectrum that complement each other due to contrast

Monochromatic Colors: a few shades, tones, and tints of one base color that deliver a subtle, non-contrasting, harmonious combination

Analogous Colors– three colors that reside next to each other on the color wheel. If you choose to go this route, it’s best to select one dominant color and use the others as accents

Where to Put a Custom Birthday Banner:

We’ll give you two scenarios regarding putting your personalized happy birthday banner inside or outside.

Scenario Number One: If it’s outdoors, it’s right there when guests show up and sets the tone for a day ready to be filled with fun. It’s a great way to start a birthday party. If you are throwing the party for a young boy, he and his guests will likely be a bit active and rowdy, especially after the birthday cake sugar rush!

That lends itself to games being played outdoors. So, if that’s where everyone will be, it makes sense the birthday banner should be hung out there. That way it’ll be visible for as much time as possible.

Scenario Number Two: This party is for a 75-year-old birthday “boy” whose birthday is in January, and he lives somewhere where it’s extremely cold. Those factors force an exclusively indoor event. Maybe he and his guests are sitting around playing some cards. They might reminisce about years gone by and the many memories that were created along the way. This tells you to have the custom banner indoors in whichever room they’ll be occupying the most.

Calculating the Size of a Custom Birthday Banner-

There are a few factors that will determine the size of the banner. They are viewing distance, space availability, letter size, and budget. Viewing distance simply means you’ll want to calculate how far away people at the party will be from the banner. If it’s being held in a tiny apartment, it can be smaller than if the party is being held in a large banquet hall. As far as spatial availability goes, part of that works in the same way as viewing distance. Additionally, if the event is going on at, say, a park, you’ll want to go with a bigger banner because people might be further away playing games. Letter size is key when deciding the dimensions of the birthday banner. It might sound counterintuitive, but you might want to choose how large or small the banner should be after you figure out your letter size. Your budget…only you know what your budget is. We just want to let you know that our banners start at the very low cost of $33.

How to Personalize Your Birthday Banner:

You’ve officially made the decision to create a personalized birthday banner. Now you’ve gotten to the step where you want to create birthday wishes that will be unique, with some little extras on it, and maybe throw in a little humor to earn some big time laughs. It’s time to put that thinking cap on and get creative. This article has been very much scenario driven. With presenting ideas, our goal is really just to put you in a frame of mind that will help you with this project. With that, we’ll use the opportunity in this last section to set a few more scenes that will hopefully assist you.

Making Your Birthday Banner Unique-

There are so many things you can do to make the party banner unique. Perhaps your birthday girl is a huge fan of the Beatles. You can design the banner with her head in the upper middle part of the banner over the words “Happy Birthday” and have heads of two Beatles on each side of her.

Extras That Can Personalize a Banner-

Let’s talk about personalizing the banner you’re about to create. The birthday boy is a huge sports fan. Design it with logos of his favorite team filling the background behind the text. The point here is that whatever the person really likes can end up as images on the banner.

Using Humor to Personalize a Banner-

It’s been said that humor is the best medicine. You can use it at the birthday party. In this example, the birthday person is turning 40. Imagine a banner with their face on it, but they appear to be much older, like 65. You will undoubtedly earn yourself plenty of laughter.  Our graphic design team has the capability of doing minor edits. We also have a major photo edits option, which we have playfully named “Reconstructive Surgery!” So we can spruce up your image no problem.
