Foam Board Signs Size Decisions

There are several different sizes that foam board signs can come in. What size you get is completely based upon your needs and your circumstances. In this post, we’ll go over:

  • some common sizes
  • things you should be aware of when choosing a size
  • different ways we can make them for you that aren’t typical

Common Sizes:

There are foam board sign-size orders that we receive much more often than others. One example is a pretty small 11”W x 17”H sign. This size is perfect if you want to print a photo of your family and put it on your desk at work.

Another common size is our 16”W x 20”H sign. In our print industry, this is typically the standard medium poster size. It’s frequently utilized for store owners having sales. Foam Board signs are very inexpensive forms of advertising, so this is a fantastic way to purchase plenty of signs and place them in different locations of a store to promote sales or specials. Side note, but an important one—for you store owners out there, we recommend you go with our dry erase board or our dry erase laminate. This way, you can easily wipe off the message about a sale or special each week, then write up next week’s sales and specials, and move the promotional pieces around the store.

Next up, there are 18”W x 24”H foam board signs. This is another medium-sized poster-style board that is often employed by store owners for advertising purposes. Many other categories of businesses like this size because it draws the eye without overwhelming the eye of customers.

We’ll routinely receive orders for foam board signs that are 22”W x 28”H. It’s a size that can be seen from farther than just a few feet away. A prime example this foam board would be used for is placed on a nice easel at a trade show booth. They can be commonly seen at a speaker presentation, a nice furniture store advertising a sale on leather sofas, or in a restaurant on a wall. They’re also prevalent as posters in college dorm rooms, as well as promotions at theaters for upcoming movies.

We also sell the very popular foam board check. These are commonly used as a symbolic check for the winner of a golf tournament and such. Foam board checks are quite large, as you can see in the picture.

We highly suggest that you order one that has maximum dimensions of 24”H x 45”W. If you were to order one any bigger, the shipping expenses end up costing quite a bit…far more than the sign itself costs. While touching on the topic of shipping, know that your foam board check will be packaged as securely as possible. We use boards on both sides of the check, bubble wrap, and corner protectors as well.

Non-Traditional Foam Board Signs:

If you’re looking to make your foam board sign catch the eye by steering away from the traditional rectangular ones, we wanted to let you know that we have a pretty cool high-tech machine called a CNC router. These signs are called, as you might expect, shape-cut.

We can make them round, triangular, in the shape of on octagon, and other geometric shapes. We program the CNC router to cut your foam board in basically any shape you want Are you the owner of a local restaurant looking to push your surf and turf? We can absolutely produce a foam board sign for you to display where people will see it, then think to buy that more expensive meal. Do you happen to own a store that sells stuffed animals and are having trouble moving your batch of E.T.’s? We’ll make a foam board sign for you to display right when customers walk in. The bottom line is, if you can envision it, we can do it.

Foam Board Size and Display Location:

As foam board signs are susceptible to breaking, we recommend you think before you display. Also note that the size of your sign will work best depending on the size of your business. You want it to be big enough to clearly be seen and read, but understand that too big a sign can overwhelm. And that might feel pushy to some customers. As for display location, make sure your foam board isn’t sticking out into an aisle even slightly. A customer could walk by not paying much attention and clip it ever so slightly. That tiny “collision” could break the sign on impact or damage it to the point where the next time someone runs into it, it’s definitely destroyed.

If you plan on hanging it, ensure that it’s securely fastened so that it doesn’t fall and immediately become a goner. But there’s a fine line between securely fastened and too taught. A foam board sign that’s tied too stringently can cause pressure on it. And given its delicate makeup, that pressure could lead to its demise sooner than later. We’re giving you this advice, as we’re looking out for your well-being. We care for our customers. We don’t just want to make a sale. We want to build a lasting relationship.
