Custom Banner Material: The 101 for You

When it comes to custom banners, there are certainly some choices to be had. We specialize in vinyl, mesh, and canvas banners. Each has its own unique characteristics, with each delivering different benefits, given what your needs are. Let’s start with vinyl.

Vinyl Banners:

Vinyl banners are strong and durable. So strong in fact, there’s pretty much no chance you could punch through one of ours. The strength and durability of vinyl banners make them quite capable and tenacious against the outdoor elements. Neither rain nor light-to-medium snowfalls have any real effect on this banner material. Because of this, vinyl banners are an ideal method with which to advertise, promote, and build brand awareness both indoors and outdoors. Vinyl banners provide a portable, powerful way to promote a business. They additionally give companies and causes the desired exposure and attention they seek at a highly affordable price.

Material-

Our standard banner material is a 13oz vinyl and is offered with a matte or gloss finish. It is tear and fade resistant, and fire retardant as well. If you’re looking to double up on your exposure, it runs as an 18oz vinyl for a double-sided banner. A banner of this makeup is perfect if you are able to place it where traffic can see it if walking or driving from either direction of its location. Two times the eyeballs means plenty more opportunities to turn a potential customer into a legitimate prospect lead.

Following up on outdoor usage, if you plan to use vinyl banners in a high wind environment, it is advised that you add wind slits to allow air to pass through (we can take care of this for you). Indoor life expectancy is five years or more if cared for properly. Outdoor life expectancy is dependent on weather conditions and sun exposure. They generally last for 2-3 years outside.

Care-

Some of the life expectancy does rest on your shoulders regarding caring for your custom vinyl banners. Our banners can be cleaned with warm water on a wet cloth or rag. Please note, you should refrain from using any harsh chemicals to clean your banner, as you could conceivably damage the print. How often to clean it? There’s not a rule of thumb frequency when it comes to cleaning your banner. Use your best judgement. Once a month should suffice, depending on the amount of usage and where the banner is set up.

Mesh Banners:

A mesh banner is actually made of vinyl, but as opposed to a solid, full foundation of material, the vinyl is woven with perforations throughout. Similar to a screen door, the many small holes in a mesh banner allow air to pass through. In high winds, mesh banners have the ability to survive wind gusts and moderate sustained winds, with a much greater capacity than solid vinyl banners. In addition to wind being a non-factor, rain and light snowfall have no real effect. Versatility of mesh banners is bountiful. Among the slew of locations they can be used are:

  • outside a store to promote a sale
  • stadiums
  • on chain-link fences
  • concert venues
  • at construction sites

This makes custom mesh banners a prime choice for outdoor advertising. Our mesh banners have a white matte base for front printing and display. Like their big brother vinyl banners, they are tear and fade-resistant, as well as fire retardant. Mesh banners do run a touch more than the traditional vinyl banners. But with the slight increase in what you’ll pay, their diversity is well worth it.

Before moving on to the last piece of this article, we want to let you know that both our vinyl and mesh banners come with complimentary grommets and hems. These free additions aid in the hanging of, and lowering of susceptibility to tearing.

Canvas Banners:

Nothing we print or produce at Good Guys Signs is of low quality. And yet, there is an ultra-upscale product we are proud of—our canvas banners. We ask, why buy any standard type of banner if you want a Monet™? Our canvas banners are a heavyweight coated stock. They run the widest color gamut for printing. They are often used for stunning trade show exhibitions, museum displays, and framed office signage. Canvas banners are for impressing, not simply selling.

Think about how the resolution works to create something so dramatic. Most digital photos are recorded at a resolution of 72 DPI (dots per inch) on the screen. The image file of an art print needs to be at least 300 DPI. The more dots of color which can be printed, the more detailed the resulting image will appear.

Material-

Our custom canvas banners are made using the Monet brand from Neschen®. They are a heavyweight 10oz coated canvas, strong and flexible, featuring a uniform matte texture. This cotton-poly blend prints vibrant, photo quality images.

Depicting incredibly detailed visuals, our opulent canvas banners are frequently used for corporate offices, nature scenes, art reproductions, and museum exhibits.
