Remember this commercial? Turn your speakers up. It’s a mere 30 seconds of your life.
That TV spot ran back in 1992 to promote Cotton Incorporated and America’s cotton growers. It was a subtle reminder of the cozy, comfy fabric, sung with a soft, warm touch by R&B singer Aaron Neville.
That may have been a long way to go for us to get to cotton as it relates to screen printing t-shirts.

Ah, cotton. A classic t-shirt fabric. Cotton is a natural product, as well as a renewable resource, which makes it very affordable to purchase and print on. Its molecular structure makes it a strong material, which provides a shirt with immense durability. In part, its strength means that instead of becoming weaker when wet, it actually gets stronger. With inks obviously being liquid, you needn’t worry. A cotton shirt won’t give in or give way. Bleeding (where the dye tends to run during the printing process) is a real non-factor when it comes to cotton.
Because it’s such a dense material, it absorbs the ink better than other fabrics like polyester. This gives cotton t shirts a higher quality look, ensuring the image on your screen print shirt presents a luminous and sharp impression.
All told, cotton provides an excellent screen printing surface, making it the preferred fabric for many looking to design a custom t-shirt.
